My work stems from a determination to say something ever-lasting in a beautiful way. Considering that my work represents my message and viewpoint, I carefully reflect on what I want or need to say and then determine the vehicle for this piece; and then I begin, immersed in the storytelling.
In the studio, I am most comfortable using collage and mixed media techniques as I enjoy re-using materials that contain their own story. Most of my materials are found or come from antique stores, my familys history and discarded items of the past that hold the promise of intrigue. The prospect of resurrection is validating to me and, in a unique way, guides me in illustrating my vision. I like to think of it as a marriage of two worlds: the infinite past and fleeting present.
Although my work often shifts between pure painting and mixed media, in each I strive to evoke a sense of urgency and drama to draw attention to the subject by developing tension, balance and contrast in the composition. My enjoyment lies in telling the story, as well as the personal journey I embark on each time I work.
My influences include Joseph Cornell, Louise Nevelson, Thrush Holmes and Judith Kindler
